Hollywood Snapshots

Over the last few years, Hollywood’s revival has moved eastward along Hollywood Boulevard or, as movie fans know it, the star-paved Walk of Fame. Most of the recent renewal has been concentrated around Hollywood and Vine, the city’s most famous intersection. While souvenir shops and tattoo parlors are still part of the area’s kitschy charm, they now share sidewalk space with luxury hotels, wine bars, a farmer’s market, upscale bars, restaurants and nightlife.

Sadie

We recently had a great time attending the preview party for Hollywood’s newest restaurant & lounge, Sadie. Since the early 1930s, the history of Sadie is just as rich as the property it stands on. Opening as everything from a Candy & Nut Shop to Les Duex, one of Hollywood most infamous nightclubs. The property owned by 3 generations of the Simon family is taking an... more Read More

Bliss Spa Hollywood

Started in the early 90s, Bliss spa began in NYC’s Soho district in the cozy apartment of founder Marcia Kilgore. A beauty and spa fanatic herself, Kilgore began sharing her passion with friends and family creating products inspired by her now famous treatments. To meet her fast growing demand she soon opened the very first Bliss Spa in 1996 right in Soho, and in 2010... more Read More

Tender Greens

One of our absolute favorite spots for lunch and catering is Tender Greens! We recently sat down with our friends Heidi Wahl, director of catering and Andi Rojas, assistant coordinator for a great lunch and chat. Started in 2006 in Culver City, CA, Tender Greens was the brainchild of 3 amigos Matt Lyman, Erik Oberholtzer and David Dressler. After meeting at Shutter on the... more Read More

Filmaker Alexis Savino “Life in Hollywood—Homevideo”

We are so excited to launch our video series “Life in Hollywood – Homevideo 1-20”
Our goal was to create a series of short films that expressed the vibrant life here in Hollywood- the REAL Hollywood.  From the Farmers Market to hiking the hills, the clubs, bars, restaurants, - and just navigating our little slice of L.A., we wanted to share our life at street... more Read More

Ten Forward Coffee & Tea Lounge

In an age where major coffee chains have dominated the market Ten Forward brings a bit of nostalgia and comfort to the famous Hollywood & Vine. Neighborhood locals and tourists alike can enjoy an artisan “cup of Joe” in a true coffee and tea lounge. We recently spent time with owner Maheen Rattonsey, who left the spa and beauty industry driven by the lack of quality... more Read More

Village Pizzeria

We had the chance to speak with Erin Manacker, in charge of media for Village Pizzeria with locations on North Larchmont and Yucca Street (Hollywood).  When asked what makes Village Pizzeria so different, Erin’s answer was “Most definitely the owners, Steve and Nancy.”  An eclectic place, known for its amazing pizza pies and client construed pizza creations, Village... more Read More

Papilles

There’s a new restaurant in town, with an ambitious mandate.  Owner Santos Uy strives to bring the following to L.A.: “1. Exquisitely executed French food, using seasonal ingredients, and labor intensive techniques.
  2. A thoughtful, even daring wine list featuring a plethora of natural wines, orange wines, oddball varietals, and Beaujolais (!).
All this served... more Read More

Room & Board

Recently, I had a chance to chat with Ken Griggs from Room & Board, about designing truly liveable spaces, in general and designing one of The Residences at W Hollywood, specifically.  We also discussed his absolute favorite Room & Board pieces, and a little about life in Hollywood.  Ken is amazing - with his charming southern accent and personable demeanor, it is easy to... more Read More

Earth’s Power Yoga

The bodies of Renee Zellweger, Jewel, and Penelope Cruz should be recommendation enough to try out Earth’s Power Yoga, located on the corner of Melrose Avenue and North Fairfax.  Yoga teacher and founder, Steven “Earth” Metz, has an eye for human physiology, and carries that into his practice of yoga.  His “been there, done that” experience with many types of... more Read More

Hennessey + Ingalls

If you’re anything like me, a good art exhibit or book store will keep you occupied, entertained even, for hours on end.  Hennessy + Ingalls is reminiscent of an art gallery in and of itself, with the quality of titles and the inate visual aspect to its wares that only an art and architecture bookshop could contain.  As such, I could spend days among the shelves, if... more Read More

Cleo at The Redbury

Cleo's in Hollywood is a hot spot that serves up some seriously tasty Mediterranean food and a cool vibe.  Just have the staff order for you--they know exactly what to order.  Everyone is so attentive and great down-to-earth service. It doesn’t get any better.  Love the Brussels sprouts, mushroom with dates, dolmades, mini mushroom gyros and the flatbread that comes... more Read More

Runyon Canyon Park

Love that there are three different hikes to choose from, easy, medium, and hard just blocks away. It's nice to have the flexibility to select the intensity on any given day. The views of LA are just stunning so if you’re feeling lazy, take it easy and just watch the city. Dogs are welcome. They will have plenty of friends to exchange sniffs with and it’s cool to see all... more Read More

Hollywood Farmer’s Market

We love the festive atmosphere at the Hollywood Farmer's market. Sampling fresh fruit in season, purchasing herbs and veggies for the week, and enjoying the live music make Sundays my favorite day in Hollywood. The crowd, true to the neighborhood, is eclectic and friendly, with plenty of colorful characters to keep things interesting.
